The Cabinet of Ministers allowed to continue the validity of the temporary certificate of a citizen of Ukraine for Russians and Belarusians. This applies to people who stand in defense of our state.
This was reported by the representative of the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, in Telegram.
He explained that this opportunity is provided for the purpose of implementing the law “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons Who Participate in the Protection of the Territorial Integrity and Inviolability of Ukraine.”
Thus, the decree applies to citizens of Russia and Belarus who acquired Ukrainian citizenship in the period from February 24, 2020 and submitted an obligation to terminate foreign citizenship within two years, but the deadline for their fulfillment expired.
In the temporary certificate of a citizen of Ukraine for persons who participate in the protection of the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, a note will be added about the extension of its validity period.
For this, it is enough to contact the State Migration Service, diplomatic missions and consulates.
It is worth noting that currently fighting on the side of Ukraine are fighters of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), a paramilitary formation that consists mainly of Russians who oppose the regime of Vladimir Putin and actively participate in hostilities on the side of Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian war. The formation was created after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Thousands of Russians and Belarusians take part in repelling Russian aggression against Ukraine, in particular, in separate formations.
There is also a regiment named after Kalynovsky – a military formation consisting of Belarusians who participate in the war against Russian aggression on the side of Ukraine. It was created in 2022 and bears the name of Kastus Kalinovsky, a Belarusian national hero, one of the leaders of the 1863-1864 uprising against the Russian Empire.
We will remind you that in December 2024, the law on the legal status of foreigners who fight on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine entered into force.
Foreigners who help the Ukrainian military to repel Russian aggression will be able to obtain a temporary residence permit in Ukraine under a new mechanism.
