The award ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Committee Mikhail Radutsky and the chairman of the subcommittee on epidemic safety, HIV/AIDS fight and socially dangerous diseases of the Lada Bulakh Committee.

The Ukrainian parliamentarians, within the framework of a foreign trip, joined the plenary session of the World Tobacco Conference, and held a meeting with the leadership of Bloomberg Philanthropies, during which Ukraine’s progress was discussed in the fight against smoking.

“In particular, the Law of the Committee No. 1978 to protect the population from the harmful effects of tobacco, approved by the Verkhovna Rada. The document prohibits cigarette smoking for heating, hookah and esigitarates in certain public places, equates to heated to ordinary cigarettes, and prohibits flavored cigarettes, ”Radutsky said.

The importance of implementation of anti -tobacco policy in Ukraine despite the war was noted.

According to the founder of the Michael Bloomberg Foundation, the global movement of tobacco control has helped save tens of millions of lives. Despite the decrease in smoking in the world from 22.8 % in 2007 to 16.4 % in 2023, about one billion people still smoke. More than 7 million people die every year as a result of smoking.

Meanwhile, the Belgium Ministry of Health has announced radical measures aimed at combating smoking, open sale of cigarettes and tobacco. From January 1, 2025, Belgian supermarkets and festivals can no longer sell cigarettes.
