Naftogaz group signed an agreement on attracting 270 million euros from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and received a grant of 140 million euros from the Norway Government.
These funds are already available to companies and will be directed to the urgent purchase of about 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
According to Naftogaz head Roman Chumak, it is a critical step to ensure a stable passing of the next heating season, especially in war and constant attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.
As a result of regular shelling by the Russian Federation, Ukrainian gas infrastructure suffered significant losses, which led to a decrease in its own production. As a result, in 2025, Ukraine is forced to significantly increase gas imports to cover the shortage and guarantee uninterrupted heat supply for the population and industry.
Preparation for the heating season of 2025/2026 has already begun – Naftogaz not only purchases gas, but also modernizes energy generating facilities. This makes it possible to increase the stability of the energy system and reduce the risks of crisis situations in the event of new enemy attacks.
In addition, the company actively cooperates with European partners, expanding gas imports through various routes and terminals.
We will remind, because of Russian blows in February, Ukrgasvydobuvannya from Naftogaz lost 50% of gas production. But more than half of the losses have already been restored.
