In a recent statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russia launched approximately 1,300 strike drones, over 1,200 guided aerial bombs, and around 50 missiles, predominantly ballistic, against Ukraine in the past week.
Zelensky noted that daily recovery efforts continue in cities and communities affected by these attacks. He specified that on February 15, regions including Odesa, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy were targeted.
The president emphasized that the primary aim of these strikes remains the destruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. He stated, “The Russians deliberately combine strikes to eliminate our generation facilities, substations, and networks. Many attacks have also targeted residential infrastructure. A significant portion of missiles are intercepted by our forces, but unfortunately, not all. Therefore, there can be no pause in protecting lives.”
During discussions in Munich, Ukrainian representatives secured agreements with leaders from the Berlin format regarding specific packages of energy and military assistance to Ukraine before February 24.
Russian military forces have consistently targeted Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure using various types of weaponry, including strike drones, missiles, and multiple rocket launch systems.
Both Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify these attacks as war crimes, asserting that they are systematically directed against civilian targets. The bombardment of essential services and healthcare facilities, aimed at depriving citizens of electricity, heat, water supply, communication, medical assistance, and other necessary living conditions, is viewed as indicative of genocidal actions.
The Russian leadership denies that its military conducts targeted strikes against civilian infrastructure during the ongoing conflict, asserting that it does not intentionally harm civilians or destroy hospitals, schools, kindergartens, or energy and water supply facilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported a significant increase in Russian drone and missile strikes over the past week, emphasizing the ongoing threat to energy infrastructure. The attacks have drawn condemnation as potential war crimes from both Ukrainian officials and international bodies.
