As part of the winter support program, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) provided Ukraine with 42 more generators of various capacities, which are already being sent to the frontline regions to stabilize the operation of critical infrastructure.
This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction – the Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba, noting that the total amount of already delivered assistance from the fund reached 106 units with a total capacity of 15.1 MW. The received equipment will support the functioning of heat networks, water supply lines, hospitals and social facilities in cities that suffer the most from Russian aggression.
This delivery is part of a large-scale project under which UNICEF plans to transfer to Ukraine a total of 255 generators with a total capacity of about 40.6 MW and a cost of almost 6.2 million US dollars. The devices, from mobile to industrial, are capable of working as a primary or backup power source to protect civilians from power challenges caused by Russian shelling. At the same time, the Ukrainian government is implementing its own solutions to strengthen energy sustainability, in particular, two cogeneration plants with a capacity of 1.5 MW and 2.3 MW have already been delivered to Kyiv from Kryvyi Rih for the needs of critical infrastructure enterprises.
Kyiv region received the first aid package from Poland – 35 generators of various capacities and 18 oil heaters. This is the first stage of a large support program, which should ensure the stable operation of critical infrastructure in the region.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the financing of the first stage of the new state program “SvitloDim”, aimed at providing multi-apartment buildings with autonomous energy sources.
