The Dutch Government has handed over an ALKMAAR type miner.
On October 12, the Commander of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Viecadmiral Alexei Shepapapa, noted that another vessel of this class was expected by the end of 2025.
During a meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands Ruben Bracelmans and Commander-in-Chief of the Netherlands Armed Forces, General Onno Aichelsheim, the parties discussed the security situation in the Black Sea region and further cooperation in the naval sphere.
Shepapa emphasized the importance of exchange of experience in the conduct of modern technological war, which, he said, will strengthen the potential of both fleets. He also thanked the Dutch side for “significant efforts and fruitful cooperation” within the coalition of Ukraine’s maritime capacity.
Alkmaar ships were created within the joint project of the Navy of Belgium, France and the Netherlands. In the 1980s and 1990s, 35 such trainingmen were built for three countries. The initial displacement of the Dutch ships was about 520 tons, later it increased to 630 tons. Unlike Belgian and French versions, the Dutch Alkmaar does not have 20 mm guns, but are equipped with three machine guns of 12.7 mm.
In September 2025, Ukrainians were most positive among the Netherlands: 89.3% of respondents expressed support, only 5.7% were negative, and the balance was 83.6.
Defense Minister of the Netherlands Ruben Breccelmans said drones and systems of counteracting drone are critical for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.
