Ukraine Prepares for Potential New Russian Attacks on Infrastructure

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that intelligence reports indicate Russia is preparing for new strikes against Ukraine’s infrastructure. This statement comes as the country reflects on a challenging winter, during which it managed to withstand numerous attacks without succumbing to Russian pressure.

Zelensky emphasized that the winter of 2022-2023 was particularly difficult, yet Ukraine successfully defended its energy system against a series of coordinated assaults. He noted, “The Russians aimed to turn this winter into a destruction of Ukraine and Ukrainians. But Ukraine did not break. We preserved our energy system. We repelled a significant number of mass strikes, where dozens of missiles and hundreds of Shahed drones were launched in a single attack.”

Despite these defenses, Zelensky warned that Russia is not expected to cease its offensive operations. He stated, “This is a fact; they are preparing new attacks on infrastructure. Intelligence provides relevant information, so everyone whose job it is to protect Ukraine from strikes must remain as focused this spring as they were in winter. Every threat must be addressed, and Russian targets must be intercepted to the maximum extent possible.”

In related developments, the general director of the energy supply company Yasno, Serhiy Kovalenko, indicated that Kyiv may not return to regular electricity outage schedules until at least April. He explained that the current situation in the capital’s energy system remains precariously complex due to uneven electricity distribution among districts.

Additionally, President Zelensky announced that detailed plans for repairing and enhancing the protection of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have been prepared. These plans will be refined and approved at the National Security and Defense Council level. He expressed hope for maximum involvement from regional and local authorities, emphasizing the importance of sharing effective strategies, especially in areas that faced more significant challenges this winter.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has alerted the nation to potential new Russian attacks on infrastructure, following a difficult winter of defense. As the country prepares for continued threats, plans for enhancing energy security are being developed at the national level.
