Ukraine officially ordered 18 IRIS-T air defense systems from the German company Diehl Defense.
This was announced by the CEO of Diehl Defense, Helmut Rauch, Deutsche Welle reports.
“Ukraine ordered 18 IRIS-T air defense systems from the German manufacturer Diehl Defense,” Rauch said.
He added that nine IRIS-T launchers are currently in operation in Ukraine, and the country is interested in additional units.
“We plan to significantly expand the production of fire installations for the IRIS-T SLM and IRIS-T SLS air defense systems,” the head of the company said.
According to Rauch, in the medium term, production will be increased to 16 firing units within about two years, with further expansion possible if demand increases. This year, the company plans to produce up to ten units.
In addition, Diehl Defense is working on the IRIS-T SLX missile with a range of 80 km.
“Germany has shown interest in the missile, and Egypt has already ordered it,” Rauch added. The IRIS-T SLX is expected to enter serial production in 2029.
