As the Ministry of Defense reports, the delegation of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine made such a proposal during a meeting with the State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, Ann Marie Aanerud. Oleksandr Balanutsa, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for European Integration, offered Norway to join the “Northern Brigade” project, within the framework of which each country of Northern Europe has the opportunity to prepare and arm a Ukrainian battalion.
Also during the seminar of the Northern Defense Industry, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine called on the arms directors of Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden for bilateral cooperation and investments in the Ukrainian defense industry.
According to Balanutsa, defense companies and countries of Northern Europe, having joined the “Northern Brigade” project, will have the opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of the products of the Northern European defense industry on the real battlefield. “Let’s join forces for a joint victory,” urged the deputy minister.
The Ukrainian delegation also held a meeting with representatives of defense industry companies – NAMMO, Fjord Defence, FLIR UAS, Kongsberg, Equipnor, Norlense and Rheinmetal.
In addition, the delegation of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine informed the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of Norway about the need to increase aid from partner states.
The parties discussed the issue of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine and increasing assistance to Ukraine within the framework of the Nansen program.
According to the State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, her country remains loyal in its support to Ukraine. The intention of the Norwegian government to expand the Nansen Support Program until 2030 and to allocate an additional NOK 5 billion this year for Ukraine shows this.
“Despite all the complexity of the situation on the battlefield, we believe in Ukraine’s victory,” Aanerud assured.
It will be recalled that the security agreement between Ukraine and Poland includes an agreement on the creation of the Ukrainian Legion on Polish territory. Citizens of Ukraine in Europe who are ready to join the ranks of the Armed Forces will be able to join this unit voluntarily.
But Poland has not yet managed to recruit a sufficient number of Ukrainian citizens to form at least a brigade of the Ukrainian Legion from them.
