The military leadership has indeed limited the mobilization of men over 50. But those with deficient military accounting specialties will continue to be recruited into the army.
People’s Deputy Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of the Verkhovna Rada’s National Security and Defense Committee, confirmed this in a comment to LIGA.net. He confirmed that there is indeed a provision in the directive of the Ground Forces Command that limits the mobilization of men aged 50-60.
According to Venislavskyi, this approach is the general position of the military leadership. After 50 years, only those who have deficient military accounting specialties are called up, noted the people’s deputy.
A separate mobilization order is issued by the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
A previously registered petition to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi with a call to reduce the mobilization age for men from 60 to 50 collected the necessary 25,000 votes.
On April 2, Zelenskyi signed a law lowering the conscription age from 27 to 25.
As for the further reduction of the mobilization age, there is currently no such urgent need in Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense pointed out.
