Ukraine is ready to discuss with South Korea on the transfer of two captives from North Korea, taking into account potential threats in the event of their repatriation, as well as if they refuse to return home.
This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Korea Dmitry Ponomarenko in an interview with The Korean Times.
“Given the threat of life and freedom of North Korean servicemen in the event of their repatriation to the DPRK, and if they refuse to return, we are open to dialogue with international partners, including the Republic of Korea, about the possibilities of their transfer to third countries, ”Ponomarenko said.
The diplomat hopes that in this case the Ukrainian side will consult with South Korea on ways to transfer prisoners.
On January 14, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea Lee Zhea UN stated that the South Korean Government was planning to consult with Ukraine on the transfer of North Korean soldiers that the Ukrainian military was captured.
