The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a draft letter to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) with a request to join the Recommendation of the OECD Council on guiding principles in the field of combating corruption and ensuring integrity in public sector enterprises.
This was reported by the representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk in Telegram.
The government made the relevant decision at a meeting on Wednesday.
It is expected that joining this Recommendation will contribute to the achievement of European standards and best global practices in the field of prevention and combating corruption. It is also about strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms, improving the international image of Ukraine and fulfilling the criteria for membership in the OECD.
In addition, the government approved a draft agreement with the OECD in the form of an exchange of letters regarding the accession of Ukraine to the Committee on Tax Issues.
It is noted that obtaining the status of a member of the Committee will allow Ukraine to participate in its work and the activities of auxiliary bodies during the entire open period. This will provide access to international tax standards and best practices aimed at forming a stable, efficient and sustainable international tax system.
Also, participation in the Committee will contribute to improving the structure and functioning of the national tax system, expanding cooperation with other jurisdictions in the field of taxation, and reducing tax barriers for international trade and investment.
As reported, in October-November, the Cabinet of Ministers has already approved a number of draft letters to the OECD regarding Ukraine’s accession to recommendations in the areas of electronic authentication, competition assessment, water resources management and data in health care, social and solidarity economy, social innovations, as well as investment policy taking into account national security. In addition, there was talk of joining the Committee on Regional Development Policy, the Digital Policy Committee and the Regulatory Policy Committee.
In mid-December, Ukraine became a member of the OECD Working Group on Bribery, which was another step on the way to deepening cooperation with the organization.
Ukraine must actively oppose corrupt politicians and businessmen in order to get closer to joining the European Union.
The International Monetary Fund called the decisive fight against corruption one of the main elements of reforms in Ukraine, which will create conditions for preserving state resources, improving the business climate and attracting more investments.
