Ukraine is developing a promising multifunctional missile system that will become a universal platform for various types of weapons based on the principle of the American HIMARS system.
Colonel Andriy Zhuravlev, deputy chief of staff of the Missile Forces and Artillery Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
The concept of the new development is similar to the American HIMARS system. It will allow to combine the use of both rockets and powerful ballistic missiles within the limits of one launcher.
According to the representative of the General Staff, the creation of such a system is part of the state program for the development of missile and jet weapons, developed on the instructions of the President of Ukraine. The main advantage of the complex will be flexibility: it will be able to perform combat tasks of varying complexity depending on the type of loaded ammunition. In parallel with this project, the improvement of already known domestic samples continues:
-
OTRK “Sapsan” — the Ukrainian ballistic complex, which as of the end of 2025 has already entered serial production and is systematically used at the front.
-
RSZV “Alder” — a jet system with adjusted rockets, the characteristics of which continue to improve.
-
Complex “Neptune” — in particular, its modification with the so-called “long rocket”, which is currently at the stage of final testing.
In addition to the public sector, private companies are also working on strengthening the Ukrainian missile shield. For example, the Fire Point company is developing its own short-range ballistic missiles (FP-7 and FP-9), which indicates the large-scale development of the country’s missile capabilities.
We will remind, according to the data Welt edition, Ukraine applied cruise missiles “Flamingo” during the attack on the temporarily occupied Crimea. The Russian FSB base was hit there.
Ukraine began using cruise missiles FP-5 “Flamingo” for attacks on Russian energy facilities.
