Ukraine has joined the Vallett Protocol, which opens access to modern mechanisms of international investigation of criminal and military crimes.

The third additional protocol to the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Affairs was signed by the Minister of Justice Herman Galushchenko on September 19 in Valletta during the informal conference of the Council of Europe of Justice. The document was also signed by another Council of Europe.
Minister Galushchenko noted that the protocol will help to increase the efficiency and promptness of mutual legal assistance in criminal cases, in particular in military and organized international crimes.
The Vallett Protocol provides:

simplification and acceleration of mutual assistance procedures;

expanding cases in which signature states can ask assistance;

active use of electronic communications and video conferencing;

use of technical surveillance technical means (GPS tracking, interception of telecommunications);

setting clear procedural terms.
The Ministry of Justice emphasized that the next step would be to prepare the implementation law to amend the Ukrainian legislation in order to fully implement the provisions of the protocol.
