The Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade (ICIT) has adopted a number of decisions to limit the import of metallurgical products to protect Ukrainian producers.

This was reported by the Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Oleksiy Sobolev on Facebook.

Among the main solutions:

  • the effect of anti-dumping measures on the import of steel bars from Belarus and Moldova was extended for another 5 years;

  • anti-dumping duties were introduced on the import of metallurgical products from Malaysia;

  • an anti-dumping investigation has been launched regarding the import of steel pipes from Turkey;

  • an anti-dumping investigation has been launched into the import of irrigation systems from a number of countries.

According to the minister, Malaysia was used to circumvent anti-dumping duties introduced by Ukraine against China.

“️The channel through which the products of Chinese metal producers entered Ukraine under the guise of Malaysian products was discovered and blocked, avoiding the payment of customs duties. The investigation proved the fact of forgery of certificates of origin. So now the anti-dumping duties that were in effect against China will also be applied to imports from Malaysia,” Sobolev explained.

The minister added that the investigation into the import of steel pipes from Turkey was launched in response to complaints from Ukrainian metallurgists.

“Developing trade partnerships with other countries is important to us. However, the protection of the domestic market is a matter of preserving the national goods producer, jobs and, in general, the survival of the economy. Therefore, in all anti-dumping measures, we act according to a clear WTO procedure and exclusively in national interests,” he concluded.
