In 2024, the state managed to close all the old queues for housing, in particular, for veterans of Afghanistan, and will now be able to focus on new mechanisms to provide housing for war veterans from the Russian Federation and their families. Deputy Minister of Veteran Affairs Ruslan Prykhodko announced this on ICTV.

“Housing for us is the provision of basic needs. We have analyzed all existing programs. Unfortunately, we have a situation where in 2024 we are providing this housing queue from the time of Afghanistan. No matter how strange it sounds. Nevertheless, the state, with the support of the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister, closed all those long queues this year. This approach will be changed by the completely new law on the basic principles of housing policy in Ukraine, which was developed with our partner Ministry of Community Development. Therefore, our task within this year was to focus our efforts on closing and ensuring all the obligations assumed by the state.”

Ruslan Prykhodko noted that the story with the apartment queue turned out to be ineffective in the long term.

“The history of the housing queue primarily determines the obligation of the local self-government body to provide housing to those people who are on the housing queue. And we supposedly had a decentralization reform. The funds remained in place, but the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine made adjustments. Part of the funds is again returned to meet the needs of the Security and Defense Forces. Therefore, in such historical retrospect, these tools were clearly ineffective.
