The decision of the IAEA to rotate its mission at the Zaporozhye NPP through the occupied territories and Russia is a violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
This is stated on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned a violation of a number of employees of the IEA sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine as a result of Russian blackmail and systematic attempts to impose illegal and contradictory mechanisms of activity in temporarily occupied territories to international organizations.
“Russia purposefully creates artificial obstacles for the activities of international organizations in Ukraine, forcing them to violate Ukrainian legislation, bilateral agreements with Ukraine, as well as neglect the resolutions of the UN General Assembly,” the statement reads.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasizes that the situation on the occupied Russian Federation of Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant has become a special example of such Russian blackmail.
“Russia has actually forced the IAEA staff to stay at the station without rotation for 80 days, which is much higher than the planned period, holding people under unprecedented psychological pressure in the increased risk zone. Moscow has actually deprived international experts of freedom of movement and used them as a tool of political pressure on the international community, ”the ministry states.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that Ukraine has repeatedly offered a safe and legitimate route of rotation through the controlled territory, but Moscow systematically denied the IAEA in providing security guarantees under these conditions.
“The Kremlin deliberately blocked the safe departure of specialists through Ukraine -controlled territory, forcing the agency to agree to Russian conditions. We consider the IAEA’s actions not as an expert rotation of the ZPP, but as a humanitarian evacuation in the face of threat to the lives and health of people who are employees of the agency, ”the Foreign Ministry emphasizes.
Ukraine has sent a protest note to the IAEA leadership, which condemns the violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country and warns against the repetition of any such actions in the future.
“The Ukrainian side will also raise the issue of unprecedented blackmail of the Russian Federation at the meeting of the IAEA governing council in the coming days,” the statement summarized.
On February 5, the MAEA mission rotation at a temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP was postponed due to lack of security guarantees from Russia.
On January 5, employees of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) heard loud explosions near the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZPP). They also reported machine gun queues that were heard from the territory of the object.
