Ukraine handed over to Turkey the lists of seriously ill Crimean political prisoners illegally held by Russia – more than 40 people, most of whom are representatives of the Crimean Tatar people.
As Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, reported, this issue was raised at a conference on the rights of national minorities in Turkey, where his representative Elvin Kadyrov spoke.
Kadyrov spoke about the violation of human rights in the occupied Crimea, in particular, the suppression of freedom of speech, the ban on peaceful assemblies, repression against the Crimean Tatars, as well as groundless arrests for political and religious reasons. He emphasized that the Russian authorities continue to torture Ukrainian political prisoners and do not provide them with the necessary medical care, which has already led to the death of two political prisoners.
Lubinets noted that the transfer of lists of seriously ill political prisoners to Turkey should contribute to providing them with medical assistance and facilitate efforts to release them.
Earlier we wrote that Russia agreed to the visit of the Chief Ombudsman of Turkey, Sheref Malkoç, to the places where prisoners of war are kept.
We will also remind you that the Crimean Tatar Rustem Gugurik, imprisoned in Russia, has serious health problems.
