At the beginning of January 2026, Ukraine significantly reduced gas extraction from underground storages – to an average of 40 million cubic meters. m per day.

This was announced by former Minister of Energy Olga Buslavets, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

This is significantly less than 58 million cubic meters. m in the corresponding period of the past three years. Such deterrence occurs despite the drop in own production due to Russian shelling.

The reason is the active import of blue fuel from Europe. Net import reaches 21-22 million cubic meters. m daily from Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Moldova.

In addition, the consumption of thermal power plants decreased due to the destruction of generators by missile strikes.

Reserves in PSG remain comfortable — 11.6 billion cubic meters. m, which is 30% or 2.7 billion cubic meters. m more than last year.

Former Minister of Energy Olha Buslavets notes: “Imports with a reserve will allow the heating season to pass without a crisis.”

The system is balanced according to plan, providing heat in houses.

It will be recalled that Azerbaijan has started supplying natural gas to Germany and Austria.

Germany also resumed importing pipeline gas from the east.
