Ukraine expects that the European Union will make a decision on the so-called “reparation loan” secured by frozen Russian assets by the end of this year.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiga told journalists about this at the NATO headquarters after the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Alliance, LIGA.net reports.
Sybiga emphasized that Ukraine’s position is that a decision on frozen assets “should be made by the end of this year.” “And all our foreign policy efforts are aimed at ensuring this decision,” he added.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy began his stay in Brussels with a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Maxim Prevost. It is in Belgium that the largest number of frozen Russian assets is concentrated, and, according to Sybiga, “their position is extremely important” and there is already “substantial progress.”
Earlier, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced two decisions that can provide funding for Ukraine in 2026-2027.
It will be recalled that Norway, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and Canada announced the financing of new support packages for Ukraine within the framework of the PURL initiative in the amount of more than 1 billion dollars, as well as separate packages of additional assistance for another 40 million dollars.
