The initial round of trilateral negotiations in Geneva has concluded, with Ukraine’s delegation poised to address the United States regarding adherence to agreements aimed at halting strikes.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to cease hostilities and pursue a peaceful resolution, while emphasizing the need for a definitive stance from Russia. “They must definitely raise the issue of these strikes—primarily with the American side, which has urged both us and Russia to refrain from attacks. Ukraine is ready. We do not need war,” Zelensky stated.
He highlighted that Ukraine is not interested in prolonging the conflict and is acting in a defensive manner to protect its sovereignty and independence. The president also noted that the pivotal question now lies with Russia—whether it is prepared for genuine diplomacy and peace, and what consequences may arise from continued missile and drone assaults.
Discussions are set to resume tomorrow, according to Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. He reported that the first day of talks concluded after a joint session and separate group meetings focused on practical mechanisms for potential resolutions.
Umerov indicated that both political and military sectors had completed their discussions for the day, and the Ukrainian delegation would prepare a report for the president. “A report on the outcomes of the first day of negotiations in Geneva will be presented to the President of Ukraine today. Tomorrow morning, the political and military groups will continue their work,” Umerov added.
