Ukraine Deploys Military Experts to Middle East Amid Regional Security Concerns

Over 200 Ukrainian military specialists are currently deployed in the Middle East to assist partner nations in countering threats from Iranian drones. This initiative, announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky, aims to enhance regional security cooperation.

According to military spokesperson Oleksandr Tykhyi, these experts are stationed in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, providing support primarily to the United States against Iranian Shahed drones. An additional 34 personnel are prepared for deployment as needed.

Tykhyi emphasized that Ukraine possesses unique expertise in countering Iranian drone technology, stating,

“No other country in the world has such comprehensive experience in this area.”

He outlined that Ukraine’s capabilities extend beyond interceptors, encompassing a complete system that includes:

  • radars and command centers;
  • software for effective interception;
  • professionals with real combat experience.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha recently noted that 11 countries have reached out to Ukraine for support in recent weeks, with several expressing gratitude for the assistance provided.

In return for its contributions, Ukraine seeks enhanced political backing from Middle Eastern countries. Tykhyi outlined four key areas where Ukraine hopes for reciprocal support:

  • Increased political support for Ukraine.
  • Backing for sanctions against Russia and Iran.
  • Expanded cooperation in security and defense.
  • Participation in Ukraine’s reconstruction and investment projects.

Tykhyi concluded,

“It is clear that the protection of airspace and civilian infrastructure is a shared challenge, and Ukraine is a mutually beneficial partner in this regard.”

Ukraine has deployed over 200 military experts to assist Middle Eastern nations in countering Iranian drone threats. In exchange, Ukraine seeks political support and cooperation in various sectors from these countries.
