Ukraine Deploys Civilian Teams to Counter Drone Threats at Ports and Railways

Ukraine has initiated a new strategy to enhance the security of its critical infrastructure by deploying civilian teams to combat drone threats at its ports and railway facilities. This move, announced by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba, marks the first time such civilian units have been activated for this purpose.

Kuleba stated that these teams consist of members from volunteer territorial defense groups, who have been tasked with countering hostile drone activity in accordance with a recent government resolution. He emphasized that these operatives are not military personnel but rather civilians trained to address the growing threat of drone attacks.

The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that Ukrainian logistics remain a primary target for Russian assaults. He noted, “They aim to disrupt our logistics to ports, to the Donetsk region, or along the frontline. However, we are working alongside military forces to protect our infrastructure.” This statement underscores the ongoing challenges Ukraine faces in safeguarding its supply chains amid the conflict.

In a related development, the state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, has heightened security measures for passengers. The company has warned that in the event of a threat during travel, an evacuation may be ordered. This precaution reflects the increasing risks associated with potential attacks on railway infrastructure, which have become more pronounced in recent months.

Ukraine has deployed civilian teams to counter drone threats at key infrastructure sites, marking a significant shift in its security strategy. This initiative aims to protect logistics and transportation against ongoing Russian attacks, while heightened security measures are also being implemented by the state railway company to ensure passenger safety.
