Warsaw is preparing to hand over six to eight MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, which will be retired from service with the Polish Air Force by the end of December.

This is reported by RMF24.

Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland Cezary Tomczyk emphasized that the transfer of aviation equipment will not weaken the country’s defense capabilities in any way.

In return, the Ukrainian side can provide Warsaw with access to advanced unmanned technologies that are actively being developed and used in combat conditions.

Tomchyk noted that the fate of these planes can be different — from museum exhibits to scrap metal.

“These planes are leaving the Polish army at the end of December. They may end up in a museum, be sold or scrapped, or they may end up in Ukraine and help destroy our enemies,” he explained the logic of a possible transfer.

According to him, the choice seems obvious if the aircraft can bring real benefit in the fight against the common enemy.

The final decision on the transfer of fighters has not yet been made. The issue will be discussed during the visit of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to Warsaw, scheduled for December 19.

The Polish side considers this transfer as part of the allied policy of supporting Ukraine and strengthening the security of NATO’s eastern flank.

It will be recalled that Poland is considering the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine.

Ukraine and Poland are also discussing the exchange of MiG-29 fighters for drones.
