The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to temporarily stop the export of raw wood. This decision is due to a number of factors, in particular, the need to protect national forest resources and stabilize the domestic wood market.
It was reported on Telegram– channels Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyridenko.
“According to the results of the trip to the Rivne region at the request of business, the government made an important decision – it temporarily banned the export of raw wood. This is a necessary step to take care of people in winter, preserve the work of our enterprises and reduce the burden on the environment,” said Svyridenko.
According to her, the volume of logging in Ukraine has significantly decreased during the full-scale invasion. Businesses that could operate are idle or operating at minimum capacity due to a lack of wood.
At the same time, the army needs wood for its needs. Life in rural communities also depends on the availability of wood, where firewood is a key resource for heating in winter.
In addition, as the Prime Minister noted, the war brought significant damage to the environment. Some forests are temporarily occupied or damaged by hostilities. Therefore, the export of wood will create an additional burden on the environment.
“The decision provides for export licensing – a zero quota until the end of the year. We continue to develop further steps for a systematic solution to the shortage of wood,” added Svyridenko.
We will remind that an indictment was sent to the court against three employees of one of the branches of the state enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” in the Zhytomyr Region. They are suspected of trying to seize state property through abuse of official position.
The bail for the head of the State Enterprise “Lysy Ukrainy” was reduced 10 times, he was released from custody.
Also, in the Kyiv region, an engineer of “Forests of Ukraine” was caught illegally cutting down trees.
