Ukraine and Sweden signed a memorandum of intent in the field of defense innovations during the visit of Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal to Sweden. According to the memorandum, the parties seek to deepen cooperation in defense innovations and create a “Swedish-Ukrainian defense innovation hub” in Ukraine.
This was reported by the press service of the Swedish government.
The parties are also aware of the need to increase the volume of defense production and create “sustainable and adaptive defense equipment production systems.” The Minister of Defense of Sweden, Paul Jonsson, noted that the combination of industrial and technological forces of Sweden with the combat experience of Ukraine will create new military opportunities, which is an investment in peace and security.
The memorandum of intent contains a total of eight points, including the exchange of defense innovations, the use of Swedish technologies for the development of joint combat solutions with Ukraine and their promotion among allies.
Ukraine and Sweden also signed a memorandum of intent to purchase 120-150 modern Saab JAS 39 Gripen E fighters. This agreement is designed for 10-15 years and paves the way for building a “very serious Air Force of Ukraine.”
It was previously reported that Sweden is considering the possibility of selling a large batch of the latest JAS 39 Gripen E fighters to Ukraine. It is about 120 aircraft — this could become the largest defense deal in Sweden’s history.
