The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Japan, Andriy Sybiga and Takeshi Iwaya, agreed to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and work on further liberalization of the visa regime.

Sybiga said this at a joint briefing with his Japanese colleague in Kyiv.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted that the parties discussed in detail the modalities of Japan’s involvement in the practical implementation of the Victory Plan and the Peace Formula, as well as the implementation of the Agreement on Support of Ukraine and Cooperation.

“We agreed to increase sanctions pressure on the aggressor state. Since the beginning of the invasion, Japan has introduced 26 packages of sanctions against individuals and legal entities in Russia and Belarus. We will continue to work to close the ways of bypassing them,” said Sybiga.

He added that the two states will continue discussing the next steps for further liberalization of the visa regime.

For his part, the Japanese minister noted that the parties agreed to work together on the preparation of an international conference on mine action in Ukraine, which Japan will hold in the fall of next year.

“Japan’s position on the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine through the joint support of the public and private sectors is unwavering. We are waiting for the visit of the First Deputy Prime Minister – the Minister of Economy, Ms. Svyridenko, to Japan in December this year with the aim of promoting the efforts of our countries,” the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan emphasized.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy thanked his colleague for his visit to Kyiv, which became one of the first after the formation of the new government in Japan.

We will remind that Japan and Ukraine agreed to conduct a bilateral dialogue on security issues with the participation of the ministries of foreign affairs and defense against the background of the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia.

Andrii Sybiga said during a joint press conference that North Korea is helping Russia in the war against Ukraine, and in exchange Pyongyang wants to receive Russian technologies.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Takeshi Iwaya, visited Ukraine for talks with representatives of the authorities. The visit of the Japanese diplomat was not announced in advance.
