On the night of Tuesday, December 31, drones attacked an oil depot in Yartsevo, in the Smolensk region of the Russian Federation. A fire is reported at the impact site.
According to the Russian Telegram channel Shot, local residents report that the first explosions were heard around 3:40 a.m. local time. In total, more than a dozen powerful explosions were recorded. Subsequently, a fire broke out in the area of the local oil depot, which is currently being extinguished.
The governor of the Smolensk region, Vasyl Anokhin, said that the local Air Defense Forces “suppressed the attack of Ukrainian UAVs”.
According to him, the wreckage of one of the drones fell on the territory of the oil depot, as a result of which “there was a fuel spill and the burning of fuel and lubricants began.”
Anokhin added that rescue services are currently localizing the consequences.
