U.S. Secretary of State Meets G7 Foreign Ministers to Discuss Ukraine Conflict

On February 14, U.S. Secretary of State held discussions with foreign ministers from the G7 nations, emphasizing the United States’ commitment to continued negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

During the meeting, leaders addressed pressing issues, including current conflicts that pose threats to peace and stability across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.

Additionally, the discussions included regional security challenges in the Indo-Pacific and the Western Hemisphere.

“The Secretary reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to fostering stability in Venezuela and pursuing negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war,” stated Tommy Pigott.

Pigott also noted that the G7 leaders acknowledged the importance of strengthening cooperation within the group to counter global threats to international peace and security.

Recent reports indicate that Ukraine is reportedly preparing for presidential elections and a referendum regarding a peace agreement. According to the Financial Times, the Trump administration has urged both votes to be conducted by May 15, warning that Kyiv could forfeit U.S. security guarantees if they are not held. Some media outlets have suggested that Washington may withdraw from negotiations if the conflict remains unresolved by that deadline, as upcoming Congressional elections could impact Republican approval ratings.

Furthermore, Reuters reported that Ukraine and the U.S. have discussed the possibility of reaching a peace agreement with Russia as early as March.

Looking ahead, a third round of trilateral negotiations involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia is scheduled to take place in Geneva on February 17 and 18. President Zelensky indicated that the agenda will include discussions on how a monitoring mission would operate in the event of a ceasefire, as well as proposals for a new energy truce.

U.S. Secretary of State met with G7 foreign ministers to discuss the Ukraine conflict, emphasizing the need for ongoing negotiations. Reports suggest Ukraine is preparing for elections and a potential peace agreement with Russia, with trilateral talks set for mid-February.
