Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the “Batkivshchyna” party, criticized the government’s initiative to introduce VAT for business owners with an annual income of more than 1 million hryvnias.
According to her, favorable conditions for oligarchs cannot be created in a warring country and at the same time taxes for small businesses are raised. Tymoshenko said that such a step would be an “effective tool for the liquidation of the middle class” and would triple the tax burden on entrepreneurs.
She predicts that about 250,000 small businesses will be at risk, and a third of businesses may close as a result of this “innovation.”
Tymoshenko emphasized that micro-entrepreneurs are the foundation of a strong economy, therefore, instead of additional pressure, they should be offered mechanisms for development. She also reported that her team has already submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on a moratorium on raising or introducing new taxes for non-profit organizations.
In her opinion, justifying the introduction of VAT by “the need to fill the budget” is manipulation, because if such a decision is adopted, small business “will simply cease to exist.” Tymoshenko believes that the real goal of these changes is “the destruction of the Ukrainian nation by economic methods.”
She assured that the “Motherland” faction will continue to protect small and medium-sized businesses and will prevent the adoption of initiatives that, in her opinion, threaten entrepreneurs.
The Ministry of Finance (Ministry of Finance) is preparing comprehensive changes to approaches to VAT taxation for individual entrepreneurs (PPOs) operating on a simplified taxation system. The implementation of these changes is planned no earlier than 2027, since, according to the ministry, this time is needed for finalizing the changes, public discussion and business preparation.
