US President Donald Trump, in his speech at the Capitol after the inauguration, emphasized what will happen “a peacemaker” and promised to end wars that America did not start.
“We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars we end and, perhaps most importantly, the wars we never enter. My greatest pride will be the legacy of a peacemaker and unifier. This is who I want to be – a peacemaker and a unifier,” said the 47th US president.
He emphasized that, as in 2017, the US will build again “the strongest army the world has ever seen.” At the same time, Trump did not mention Ukraine in his speech.
On January 20, a few hours before the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council.
According to the released part of the meeting, Putin congratulated Trump on the inauguration and declared his readiness to lead “equal and mutually respectful dialogue” with the administration of the new US president.
On January 9, during a speech at Mar-a-Lago, US President-elect Donald Trump said that Putin wants to meet with him, and the organization of negotiations has already begun.
Before that, on January 7, Trump announced that he was going to meet with Putin after the inauguration.
On Monday, January 20, Donald Trump was sworn in and officially assumed the position of the 47th president of the United States.
78-year-old Republican Donald Trump won the presidential election for the second time in 2024, ahead of the representative of the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris. He already held the post of president in 2017-2021.
