The Kyiv Court of Appeal left unchanged the preventive measure against the former mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov, in the case of official negligence, which caused the death of nine people.
This was reported in the Telegram of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Trukhanov will remain under 24-hour house arrest with an obligation to wear an electronic monitoring device. Prosecutors consider this measure to be sufficient, taking into account the severity of the consequences of the incriminated offense and the risks of obstructing the pre-trial investigation.
Trukhanov was notified of suspicion of official negligence for the consequences of the flood on September 30, as a result of which people died in Odesa. The investigation believes that the situation was caused by the improper functioning of the drainage system.
In addition to Trukhanov, eight more people are suspected in this case, including his deputies, heads of departments, and officials of the Communist Party of Ukraine. Trukhanov received suspicion already in the status of the former mayor of Odesa.
The law enforcement officers announced suspicion against nine officials of the Odesa City Council and the utility company due to official negligence, which caused the death of people during the large-scale flood on September 30.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced the extremely important decision to revoke the citizenship of Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
