On January 6, 2026, Christians of the Eastern rite in Ukraine will celebrate Epiphany, or Epiphany, which completes the cycle of Christmas holidays. This holiday is dedicated to the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River, during which, according to legend, all three hypostases of the Holy Trinity appeared to people for the first time. The central tradition of the day remains the great consecration of water, which, according to beliefs, acquires healing properties and the ability to remain fresh throughout the year.
The celebration traditionally begins with solemn liturgies in churches, after which believers collect holy water to bless their homes. Despite the popularity of the folk tradition of bathing in pits, the church and doctors emphasize the importance of a conscious approach to immersion. Experts advise to swim only in specially equipped places where lifeguards are on duty, and to be sure to take into account the state of your own health, avoiding stress on the body without prior preparation.
The spiritual content of the holiday involves the observance of certain ethical restrictions, in particular the refusal of quarrels, slander and hard work. Believers are recommended to spend this time in prayer and reflection on inner purification, showing mercy to others. In the conditions of martial law, Ukrainians are also urged to observe safety rules and avoid mass gatherings of people, so as not to expose themselves to danger during possible attacks from the Russian Federation.
On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the Kyiv Metro will change the mode of operation of the Hydropark station due to the Epiphany celebration according to the New Julian calendar.
We will remind you that on January 6, 2024, the British ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Harris, joined the people of Kyiv and together with them dived into the Dnipro at Vodokhreshcha.
