The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, appealed to the United States to grant licenses for the production of Patriot air defense systems to strengthen the defense of Ukrainian skies, but so far Ukraine has not received a response.
The president said this during an interview with Le Parisien, published on Wednesday, December 18.
“How many times have I said, I’ll tell you honestly, from the USA. I asked a lot – give us licenses to manufacture the Patriot. And nobody seems to mind. No one ever told me: “No, we won’t give it to you.” But so far we have not received anything,” the head of state said.
He noted that even after three years of war, Ukraine has still not received the required number of such systems. The partners explained this by the fact that they do not have the strength to produce so many systems, since there are many countries in the world that need them.
Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine needs an additional 10-12 Patriot air defense systems.
On November 28, the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Ruben Breckelmans, announced that his country had handed Ukraine three launchers for the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system.
On December 3, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga said that Ukraine needs at least 20 air defense systems to avoid a blackout due to Russian attacks.
