Nataliya Smashna, the wife of the person who died on January 5 during the Russian strike in the patient’s ward of the Medicom clinic, recognized as a victim in one of the criminal proceedings. The woman indicates that the staff hid themselves, but did not even wake up her husband so that he could go to the shelter.
Oleksiy Shevchuk, the spokesman of the National Association of Advocates, informed UA.News about this. He pointed out that the clinic has abdicated responsibility for the patient’s death and is spending money on a media campaign to whitewash its reputation instead of paying compensation to the victim’s family.
Now within the open proceedings:
• forensic and other examinations are ongoing,
• interviews of witnesses are conducted,
• initial statements of persons who were present during the events were recorded.
Granting Natalie the status of a victim is an important procedural step that opens up the possibility of full participation of the victim side in investigative actions, familiarization with materials and submission of petitions.
In view of the public significance of the case, an inspection of the clinic’s compliance with requirements and standards in the field of health care at the level of specialized bodies, in particular the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the National Health Service of Ukraine, will be initiated in the near future. The side of the victims expects an objective and impartial investigation taking into account all established circumstances.
