Russian troops began using drones equipped with Starlink satellite communications. Ukraine already records these cases and should react as quickly as possible. This was stated by the Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, during the “Army of Drones – 2025” event.
“Today the Russians launched drones from Starlink. We need to react very quickly to this,” the minister emphasized. He emphasized that the key factor in this situation is speed. It is not only about responding to already recorded cases, but also about the ability to predict the next steps of the enemy.
“The speed of our reaction, prediction of future cases and response to potential threats should lead to the fact that we do not allow problems for our people, for our military,” Fedorov said. According to the minister, today the war is increasingly moving into the realm of technology and precise solutions. That is why, when working on the so-called “mathematics of war”, the state must act quickly and without excessive bureaucracy.
“It is necessary to make quick decisions and bring them to a concrete result,” he emphasized. At the same time, the situation with Starlink in the drone war is causing more and more debate. In fact, the sanctioned blocking of systems over the territory of Russia did not lead to the expected weakening of the enemy. On the contrary, Russian drones of the type “Italmas” and “Gerany” were able to fly stably over Ukrainian territory with satellite communication.
At the same time, Ukrainian drones are often forced to work in much more difficult conditions — using beacons, mobile SIM cards and other workarounds. Experts have repeatedly pointed out that the asymmetry in access to communication is becoming one of the key factors in the war of drones. Fedorov’s statement shows that the problem is recognized at the highest level and requires systemic solutions as soon as possible.
