In the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the flag of the Czech Republic was raised as a sign of gratitude to the Czech people for their enormous help and support to Ukraine, which was subjected to hostile Russian aggression.
This was announced by the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk.
This gesture took place a day after the new Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Tomio Okamura, ordered to remove the flag of Ukraine, which had been hanging there since February 2022, from the building of the Czech Chamber.
Stefanchuk emphasized that Ukraine appreciates the shelter and protection hospitably provided by the Czechs, the Ukrainian flags throughout the Czech Republic, the courageous visit of the speaker of the Czech Senate Miloš Vystrčil to front-line Kyiv in 2022, as well as the determination of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Marketa Pekarova Adamova and the support of the Crimean Platform.
In addition, Stefanchuk recalled the criminal role of Moscow in the history of the Czech Republic: “And I also want us to always remember the criminal role of Moscow in the division of Czechoslovakia in 1938 and the Prague Spring drowned in blood by it in 1968. Because, as Vaclav Havel, the first president of the modern Czech Republic, said: “Russia, of course, still does not know where its borders are.”
The flag of Ukraine on November 6 took off the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tomio Okamura, who was elected Speaker of the lower house on Wednesday.
In response to this, the three parliamentary factions in the Czech parliament themselves hung up flags of Ukraine.
