The start of the heating season for many Ukrainians can be delayed due to a difficult situation in energy. Russian blows have led to a lack of gas to stable energy during winter.
The last Russian blows to gas objects have damaged 60% of natural gas production in Ukraine. If shelling continues, by the end of March it will have to buy about 4.4 billion cubic meters of gas worth almost $ 2 billion. This is equal to almost 20% annual gas consumption, writes Bloomberg .
Since the restoration of firing of energy facilities, the Ukrainian authorities have appealed to partners for the provision of equipment for the repair of the energy system and repeated the request for the transfer of additional air defense systems.
The exact amount of gas that Ukraine will need to pass the heating season will depend on the speed of repair of damaged objects and the scale of destruction from future attacks, said Minister of Energy Svetlana Grinchuk.
Recently, the mayors of individual cities have been concerned about the state of energy and did not exclude the possibility of delaying the beginning of the heating season.
“It is necessary to wait a little to do everything right – in the winter it would be warm in winter. We do everything you need from the city council, but I ask Lviv citizen: take care of yourself, ” – said in Telegam the mayor of Lviv Andrei Sadovy, which he made on October 10.
The heating season throughout Ukraine should begin as “as later as possible”, wrote on Facebook the mayor of the Dnieper Boris Filatov and urged not to put excessive hopes on generators in the event of large -scale shutdowns of electricity.
Ukrainian gas production has been significantly affected by Russian attacks and is currently taking time and resources to recover. It is advisable to delay the start of the heating season as possible, as it will reduce gas consumption, said the director of the Energy Research Center Alexander Kharchenko in Comments RBC-Ukraine.
On October 8, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allegedly laid the start of the heating season on November 1, 2025. However, it turned out to be a mistake. The government’s resolution is not related to the actual start of the heating season and the heat supply to homes, but only concerns the continuation of the fixed price for the population, explained in the Ministry of Energy.
“The decision to start the heating season in Ukraine is made by local authorities, based on the established standards-if within three days the average daily temperature does not exceed eight degrees of heat,”-said Alexander Sergienko, director of the analytical and research center “City Institute”.
The calls to delay the beginning of the heating season are populist and unjustified, the expert said. When the temperature drops, people still begin to heat the premises. “You will save on gas, but the power system will consume electricity in high volume,” he explained.
Also, local authorities have the right to turn on heating in socially important facilities – hospitals, schools and kindergartens, if the situation requires. In a number of cities – in particular in Vinnitsa, Kropyvnytskyi, Lviv, Uzhgorod, Khmelnitsky and Zhytomyr – they have already begun to be supplied to such institutions.
In Kiev, the process of starting heating has its technological features. The capital has one of the largest thermal systems in Europe and takes about three weeks to start it. “Therefore, since the beginning of October, hospitals, schools and kindergartens are gradually being connected so that by the middle of the month it is possible to provide heat to the whole city,” Kharchenko said.
There are no serious technical obstacles to the start of the heating season, but the state will have to spend more on gas imports, Sergienko assured.
“If it is cold, the local authorities will not listen to calls for delay, but simply will connect the heating,” he summarized.
On the eve of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine denied False data that are actively spreading on the network that the heating season is supposed to start on November 1, 2025.
Earlier it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers has approved new dates of the heating period – now it will last from November 1 to March 31 instead of former terms from October 15 to April 15.
We will remind, the mayor of the Dnieper urged to start the heating season as later and at the same time throughout the country.
The People’s Deputy also reported the start of the start of the heating season.
