No one asked for Vatican mediation in potential peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow.

This was stated by the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Blessed Svyatoslav in an interview with “RBK-Ukraine”.

“The Vatican does not perform any mediating mission, and no one asked for such a mission. Even on the other hand, there was a sharp statement by our President, who said that we don’t need mediators, we need allies. And the Vatican also had a very serious reaction to this question: well, let’s think about where, in terms of the victory of Mr. President, the Vatican can be an ally. And here is the humanitarian part of this plan, then it was called “President Zelenskyi’s Peace Formula”, the Vatican chose that part of this Peace Formula, which falls somewhere under the competence of the church, which is a subject of international law. And here, the Holy See is very methodically and consistently trying to do what it can for the benefit of Ukraine,” Svyatoslav said.

He noted that he has been personally working on the issue of mediation since 2014.

“As of today, I can, or rather, must state that such mediation does not take place. Because there are certain conditions. Mediation is a certain diplomatic mechanism that has certain prerequisites… First, both parties must agree to it and must ask for it. And next, they should be ready to implement certain recommendations that the mediation will offer. At the moment, there are none of those conditions,” Svyatoslav noted.

As reported, the head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, the Supreme Archbishop of Kyiv-Halytskyi, His Beatitude Svyatoslav, said that the Ukrainian state is gradually realizing the important role and place of the church in society, the role of spiritual support of the Ukrainian people in wartime conditions.

Earlier we wrote that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi arrived at the Vatican on October 11, where he met with Pope Francis.

We will also remind you that Pope Francis named the new cardinals. Among them is the diocese of Melbourne UGCC.
