The popular Telegram messenger has increased cases of creation of fake accounts that are issued for the official pages of the first persons of the state.
The Center for Combating Misinformation reported that fraudsters had already created fake accounts of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the first lady of Elena Zelenskaya, Presidential Head of President Andriy Yermak and Security Head of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk.
Particularly dangerous is that the creation of such channels is used by the malefactors of the old cryptocurrency, which simply rename under the guise of official accounts of Ukrainian officials.
This allows them to quickly recruit subscribers and spread misinformation or fraudulent schemes. The CPD emphasizes that the real accounts of the President, the first lady and the head of the OP have a special sign of verification – the blue “bird” near the name.
Official information from the SBU chairman is published only on the verified account of the Security Service of Ukraine. All other channels are fake.
The activities of such fraudsters may be part of information attacks by Russia, which systematically spreads fakes and misinformation about Ukrainian authorities and military leadership.
In addition to Telegram channels, malefactors create fake sites and pages on other social networks to disorient citizens and harm the reputation of state institutions.
Ukrainians are urged to be careful as possible: not to move on suspicious links, to check the availability of verification from accounts, and not to inform personal data to unknown persons even if the account looks official.
In case of suspicion of fraud, you should contact law enforcement agencies and report suspicious accounts of the messenger administration.
We will remind, the founder of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov stated that one of the Western European governments appealed to his company demanding to “suppress conservative votes” on the eve of the second round of the presidential election in Romania.
We have already reported that Telegram messenger founder Pavel Durov stated that his platform “never disclosed personal messages to users”.
