The Supreme Court of Ukraine rejected the appeal of the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS), which demanded the seizure of the assets of the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).

The legal dispute lasted for several months: earlier, in October 2024, DESS received a similar refusal from the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal, after which the agency tried to appeal this decision in a higher instance.
The position of UOC lawyers is based on the fact that attempts to block accounts and property are groundless and have signs of pressure on the religious community. At the same time, DESS justified its demands by the need to control the activities of organizations that may have connections with the aggressor state Russia. The decision of the Supreme Court is final within the scope of this review, which effectively leaves the Kyiv Metropolitanate with access to its financial and property resources.
In Odesa, the priest of the Moscow Patriarchate, Ivan Pavlichenko, was sentenced to prison for pro-Russian statements and justification of Russian aggression. Earlier, the court gave him a suspended sentence, but after reviewing the case, the sentence was changed.
The Prosecutor General’s Office, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, announced the suspicion of one of the high-ranking clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church, Dmytro Vasylenko, the deputy head of the Synodal Department of the Russian Orthodox Church for interaction with the armed forces and law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.
