Veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, ex-commander of the Aydar battalion company, director of the National Antarctic Science Center Yevhen Dykiy in an interview with Radio NV – about the problem of the lack of soldiers at the front and two important decisions regarding mobilization that can change the situation.

— I will start with the difficult situation in the Selidovoy district. Do you have information about what is happening there in your information folder?

— No, there is no such exclusive. I know approximately what we all know. But, to be honest, taking this opportunity, I would like to perhaps change the perspective or discourse of the conversation. It’s just that many times the conversation starts immediately with this…

Video of the day

– No-no-no, Evgeny, I am against such a tone of conversation. I will explain the following to you. I don’t often ask questions about the situation on the fronts, because I believe that competent people should comment on it. But at the same time, I also understand that the citizens of Ukraine have the right to know what is happening in principle, and not general phrases, what Russia wants. It is also important to inform our fellow citizens about the real situation.

— Dmitri, I understand what you mean and I disagree a little, with your permission. Of course, citizens have every right to know more than what Russia wants, of course.

But when the citizens, sitting in the deep, warm, cozy rear, start [вдивлятися] on the DeepState maps and demand information, and what is in Chasik (Chasiv Yar — Ed.), and what else… I want to say: people, let’s first set out some basic points. That in Selydovo, that in Kurakhovo, first of all, there are not enough people…

– Evgeny, please wait. I am against primitivizing the citizens of Ukraine. When people find out what is happening… Among my friends and acquaintances, many people who mobilized recently were not busified, but left and mobilized themselves. That’s why it’s also a somewhat primitive approach, rather consumerist, about the fact that some people are sitting around with cocktails and demanding to be told about what’s happening in Kurakhovo. And I think it works differently.

– Agree that those friends of yours who mobilized (it is a great honor and thanks to them for this), they are unlikely to listen to you and me now, they are a little not up to it now.

— This is how others listen: those who are deciding now, those who are choosing their military unit.

– That’s right. That is why I want to emphasize what our rear should know first of all: it is very difficult in all areas of the front because there are not enough people. And this is what does not distinguish Selidove, for example, from Kupyansk. Both there and there, our defenders are simply not enough, and because of that, it is very difficult there.

You are talking about your friends who mobilized. And I will tell you that statistically the situation is very bad. What we now collect is one and a half times less [людей]than our sanitary losses for the same month. do you understand And this, unfortunately, is also an objective reality that must be known.

Let me clarify for those who may not understand this way: sanitary losses are not only, God forbid, the dead, but they are the dead plus the wounded who have been out of the ranks of the Armed Forces for a long time. We lose one and a half times more than during this time, together with voluntary recruiting and mobilization, we recruit to replace them. And so the situation becomes critical.

– What to do with it?

— Here, again, at what level [робити]? At the level of our individual listener, it is probably a good idea to consider whether he himself is ready to leave. And at the level of our government… First of all, the one who fails the mobilization is our civilian government. This, unfortunately, is an objective reality. I don’t like to criticize the government during the war, but there is a fact: almost nothing has been done about mobilization. The May law somewhat streamlined military records, which is certainly a necessary first step, but only the first of many.
