The State Emergency Service records a critical increase in the number of household fires. The main cause of the fires was the emergency operation mode of the power grids, caused by unstable power supply and overloading of systems after the restoration of light.
This was reported by the representative of the Department of Civil Protection of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Vladyslav Bagniuk, during a briefing on January 29.
Rescuers emphasize that the use of uncertified heaters, home-made devices and damaged insulation in conditions of regular blackouts leads to tragic consequences in the residential sector.
A separate caveat applies to the operation of alternative sources of energy and heat. The State Emergency Service urges citizens to immediately stop using power banks and batteries that show signs of swelling, as they are prone to spontaneous combustion and explosions. Tourist gas burners can only be used to heat food in well-ventilated areas, and large cylinders are strictly prohibited from being placed on electric stoves, because after turning on the power, the stove will automatically start heating the cylinder, which will lead to a catastrophic explosion.
In the event of any signs of smoke or open fire, you must immediately call the rescue service on 101 or 112. When calling, it is important to clearly name the address, the object of fire and warn about the presence of people in the building. Rescuers ask residents of multi-apartment buildings to vacate entrances for fire equipment in advance and not to overload networks by simultaneously turning on powerful appliances (washing machines, boilers) immediately after the appearance of electricity.
The State Emergency Service reminded the safety rules when using gas heaters.
On the night of January 22, six people died in the Kyiv region suffered carbon monoxide poisoning due to violation of safety rules during home heating and generator use.
On the night of January 10 in the Halytsky district of Lviv in apartment on the street Nine people were poisoned by carbon monoxide in Prince Roman. Among them are five children.
