Vadim Tchaikovsky, Deputy Head of the State Consumer Service, told this in an interview with Latifundist.
According to him, the problem really exists, especially on the line of contact. However, it is not new: locust outbreaks occur every year, and this year the situation has not come out of control.
“The locust invasion is a consequence of Russia’s ecocide against Ukraine. And not only against Ukraine, but against the whole world, ”Tchaikovsky emphasized.
The main causes of the invasion were the increase in the average daily temperature, the change in natural and climatic conditions, the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, the war and the abandoned land near the front.
In 2024, a special regime of plant protection was introduced in the Slobozhansky settlement council of the Chuguev district of Kharkiv region. In the previous years, the cells were observed in Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Donetsk regions, and even earlier – in the southern regions, including Odessa, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk.
Tchaikovsky also said that in the Zaporizhzhya region ducks eat locusts massively, and, according to local, they do not want to eat anything else. Biological methods of control, such as the use of natural enemies, have already helped Pakistan cope with the recipient of locusts.
Recall that in the southeastern regions of Ukraine the active spread of migratory locusts has been recorded.
Also, the outbreak of locusts in the Kherson region managed to localize due to the treatment of crops.
