During Vasyl Malyuk’s tenure as head of the Security Service of Ukraine, the agency was transformed into an effective special service of a warring country for the first time in the history of the state.

One of the most high-profile special operations was Operation Web, as a result of which the nuclear triad of the Russian Federation was struck and 41 military aircraft were hit at four enemy airfields. Vasyl Malyuk personally coordinated the preparation and conduct of this operation in the deep rear of the enemy.
He also planned and was responsible for three attacks on the Crimean bridge: in 2022 — using a truck with explosives, in 2023 — with the help of Sea Baby drones, and in 2025 — by underwater detonation.
An important role in the actions of the SBU at sea was played by the creation and use of Sea Baby naval combat drones. As a result, 14 Russian ships were hit, which led to the loss of Russian dominance in the Black Sea. In addition, during Malyuk’s tenure, for the first time in history, a Russian submarine of the “Varshavyanka” class was hit in the port of Novorossiysk with the help of a Sub SeaBaby underwater drone.
The SBU is also systematically attacking the oil refining industry of the Russian Federation, which is one of the key sources of funding for the war against Ukraine.
The Security Service notes that under Malyuk’s leadership, the work of counterintelligence has significantly increased. Currently, the SBU prevents about 80% of terrorist attacks that Russian special services are trying to organize in Ukraine. 128 enemy intelligence networks, which included 563 people, were exposed.
Since 2022, SBU investigators have announced more than 3,800 suspicions of treason. Among the defendants are representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, who are being investigated in more than 180 criminal proceedings.
Systematic cleansing of the SBU from agents of the Russian Federation became a separate direction. More than ten “moles” were exposed in the department, in particular high-ranking officials Dmytro Kozyura and Oleg Kulinich, who were personally detained by Vasyl Malyuk.
The SBU emphasizes that the Service is one of the key components of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Its units took part in the liberation of Kyiv region, Zhytomyr region, Kharkiv region, Kherson region, Zmiiny island, as well as in the Kursk operation. Currently, SBU fighters are performing tasks in the Pokrovsky direction and other difficult areas of the front.
CSO “A” of the SBU is consistently among the top three most productive units in terms of the amount of destroyed equipment and manpower of the enemy with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles. Almost every fifth damaged tank is on account of the Security Service.
Also under Malyuk’s leadership, a large-scale transformation of the SBU took place: legislative changes were initiated to strengthen the fight against Russian aggression, terrorism, sabotage, and cyber attacks, the number of CSO “A” was increased, responsibility was changed with a focus on protecting national security, and the implementation of the SBU’s development strategy for 2025-2030 began.
“The Security Service of Ukraine will continue to beat the occupier on the ground, in the sky and on the water, penetrate into its deep rear and strike where it does not expect it. Only unity, mutual trust and a common vision of the future can stop the enemy and break the backbone of his criminal army,” concluded Vasyl Malyuk.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi reported on the meeting with Vasyl Malyuk. The head of state thanked him for his effective combat work and emphasized the need to continue to focus on conducting asymmetric operations against the Russian aggressor.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that he does not plan to replace the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybigu.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is considering the possibility of dismissing Vasyl Malyuk from the position of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine and his subsequent appointment to another strategic, but less important position.
