On Monday, January 6, law enforcement officers began criminal proceedings in connection with the shooting by Russian troops of two Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Volnova district of the Donetsk region.
According to the prosecutor’s office, on January 3, 2025, during the assault on the positions of the Ukrainian troops near the village of Vremivka in the Volnova district, the occupiers captured two servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The prisoners were taken out of the dugout under machine gun fire and shot at close range in the head. To be sure, the Russians fired a few more shots, law enforcement officers said.

“Shooting prisoners of war is a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a grave international crime. Investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime and the persons involved in its commission are being carried out,” the message reads.
The investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the SBU in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Earlier on January 6, DeepState published a photo that reportedly shows three dead Ukrainian soldiers. According to the project, the Russians could shoot soldiers of the 141st brigade during the assault near the village of Neskuchne on January 3.
Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reacted to information about the execution of prisoners of war and stated that he urgently appealed to international organizations to increase pressure on the Russian Federation.
