The counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine detained two agents of Russian military intelligence (GRU) who operated in the Kyiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions. The attackers prepared a series of air attacks of the Russian Federation on high -voltage power lines to deactivate part of the northern regions of Ukraine.

According to the investigations, agents went to the ground and recorded the geolocation of potential goals. They also found radar stations of the Armed Forces and transferred their coordinates to the Russians so that the occupiers could strike the Ukrainian air defense. To collect data, the attackers photographed objects through a special program that recorded coordinates, date and time.
The SBU exposed agents in time and detained them in Kiev at the place of residence. The occupiers of the occupiers were a 27-year-old assistant lawyer of a local law company and his acquaintance-a 25-year-old unemployed. In 2024, they searched for “fast earnings” on Telegram, where they were recruited by representatives of the GRU of the Russian Federation.
Agents constantly changed SIM cards and phones, removing their actions with Russian curators remotely. During the searches, they seized eight mobile phones with evidence of cooperation with the GRU, as well as computer equipment.
Investigators of the SBU reported the detainees of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (State betrayal in the conditions of martial law). They are now in custody. They are threatened with life imprisonment with the confiscation of property.
The operation was performed by SBU staff in the Chernihiv region under the procedural leadership of the regional prosecutor’s office.
