Employees of the State Security Bureau referred the case of an official of the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve to the court. He cooperated with the Russian occupiers in the Kherson region, and then returned to the territory controlled by Ukraine.
According to the SBI, the accused in the spring of 2022 helped the leadership of the Russian commandant’s office navigate the area, using his knowledge and expertise. He also provided the aggressors with information about the state of reservoirs, the depth of the coastal zone, and possible landing sites for ships.
The figurehead collected and transmitted data about his colleagues to the enemy and reported their readiness to cooperate with the occupation authorities. For loyalty and assistance to the invaders, the man expected to receive a position from them. However, when he realized that his hopes would not come true, he left for the territory controlled by Ukraine. Security forces detained a defector in Khmelnytskyi.
The court chose a preventive measure for him – detention without bail.
The ex-official is charged with treason under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of life imprisonment.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine detained two more members of the agent network of the Russian FSB, which was exposed in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
