On October 30, as a result of military operations in Ukraine, damage was caused to substations that are critically important for nuclear safety.
About this reported Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
The South Ukrainian and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants (NPP) lost access to one of the power transmission lines.
Despite the fact that the six reactors have been inactive for more than three years, their basic safety systems require a stable power supply, which highlights the vulnerability of the situation in Ukraine.
Repair work on the 330 kV Ferosplavna-1 transmission line at the Zaporizhzhia NPP continues after new damage was discovered. This line, along with the restored Dniprovskaya, is one of two remaining in use, and its restoration is critical to improving nuclear safety.
Specialists continue to work on creating the right conditions to restore power to stations that have been dependent on emergency generators for a long time.
