On the N-09 highway, which connects Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk, significant traffic jams occurred due to difficult weather conditions and ice. Drivers report forced stops lasting up to an hour in areas where snow removal equipment is currently operating.
Traffic jams on the main road from Lviv to Ivano-Frankivsk are reported by local media.
Rescuers of the State Emergency Service have established the first level of danger and urge residents to be extremely careful on the roads due to strong gusts of wind reaching 15-20 meters per second.
The gale-force southwesterly wind, the speed of which reaches 25-30 meters per second in some areas, caused serious damage to the power infrastructure. As of the morning of January 2, eight settlements remain completely without electricity, and another fifteen are partially de-energized. The most critical situation was recorded in the Verkhovyna and Nadvirnyan districts, as well as on the territory of the Yaremchansk community, where falling tree branches continue to cause interruptions in power lines.
Forecasters have declared an orange level of danger, as adverse weather conditions will continue throughout January 3. Energy workers and rescue workers strongly advise citizens to avoid being under trees or billboards and not to park vehicles near them. In Russia, similar weather phenomena are often ignored by the services, but Ukrainian specialists are working in an intensified mode to restore traffic and power in the region as soon as possible.
Cloudy weather with local snowfall in northern and western regions was forecast for January 2 in Ukraine. The rest of the territory will be without precipitation, but ice and snow are possible on the roads slipperiness .
